Hi there.

Today I finally got all of the parts for my first build, though unfortunately it's causing nothing but frustration about 5 hours in. Build here:

EVGA SC GTX 970
Intel i5 4690k
ASRock Anniversary Z97
HyperX 1600 DDR3 2x4GB
Random off-brand DVD burner
Corsair 120GB SSD (buying HDD later for storage space, this is just for Windows & drivers install)
Thermaltake TR2 600W

So, I have everything assembled, and all of the pins look right to me based on the motherboard manual. At first, I had the case fan plugged into the wrong slot when attempting to boot, but switched that to the correct slot.

When I press the power button with everything plugged in, I see the fan for the CPU barely try to start moving - kind of a stutter - and the LED flashes white once on the front of the case. After that, nothing.

Any ideas? I can snap pictures of anything inside if it helps. I've tried clearing the CMOS, removing the video card, removing the RAM, using just one stick of RAM in each slot,

From What I see in the Pictures, I see no particular problems or mistakes in the actual hardware,.. did you check if any of the parts are defective? It is a rare case but sometimes, the graphic card or motherboard, faulty rams can cause you PC to not get turned on. Also, Just in case, (Although I believe its not) it might be power shortage.

FOR GPU TEST: Take your 970 out and try using your integrated graphics (it is already built into the cpu) to boot. Just plug your DVI or HDMI into...

Try this:

Make sure that the switch on your Power Supply is Turned ON.
Make sure your RAM is in the correct slots
Make sure that all of your Power Supply Pins are correct ones (VGA Power Cables and CPU, those can be confusing sometimes. Check your PSU Manual)
Make sure your PowerButton is plugged into the right pin on the Motherboard.

Upload some pics, it would help.

Hope it helped!

Good Luck!

The switch on the power supply is on.
RAM has been tested in all slots.
VGA power cord? As in for the display? My mobo only has HDMI and DVI, and my gfx onlyn has HDMI/DVI/DP. The manual for the PSU doesn't say anything about VGA power cables or pins.
The power button is in the correct pin.

Sorry I didn't answer for a while.
I was offline for a long time.

Gimme few minutes to analyze the pictures.

FOR GPU TEST: Take your 970 out and try using your integrated graphics (it is already built into the cpu) to boot. Just plug your DVI or HDMI into on-board slots. If it boots when gpu was removed, its the GPU's problem. If not, do next step.

FOR CPU TEST: If you have any spare computers that supports your 4690K, try putting the cpu into the working pc and test it out. If you cannot do that or it worked fine, do next step:

FOR MOTHERBOARD TEST: Plug out your HDD/SSD, plug out your GPU, leave only RAM, MOBO, CPU, PSU and try turning it on. If not, it's the mobo's problem. If your screen shows up something, your mobo's fine.

After than, without professional equipment, there is no way for you to check all the components. After all this, if your PC does not boot up, refund all parts ad DEFECTIVE and buy new set.

Sorry bud, It's all I can do.

Thanks for the help. Tried stripping it down to the mobo/cpu/ram, still nothing. I've ruled out the psu with a known working one. I'm assuming it's not an issue with the case, as both psus power on fine and shut down correctly via the power button. This mobo only has an hdmi output, so I know it's not a boot only to DVi problem I've read about on other boards.

Tomorrow I'm going to run down to microcenter, exchange my cpu bought there and purchase another mobo while returning this one to newegg. I figure I can give the other parts a shot again before paying to ship them back for replacements.

I'll let you know the results, thanks again.

No Problem.

For me, at this state, I can only rule out that the Motherboard is broken (because the Mobo controls basically everything).

Good luck with your refund/rebuild!

Thanks one last time ;)

Got it on now, installing Windows as I type. I tested it with the bare minimum components this time, and got a boot screen, so assembled the whole thing - Wouldn't show me a boot screen with the 970 installed anymore, so I removed it and the install process is going smoothly so far. I'm not sure if the graphics card is functional or not, but I'll try reinstalling it once everything is together - if not, I've still got time to pay for an advanced RMA with EVGA so it'd only be a few days wait.

Appreciate all of the help!

Glad I helped you out.

Enjoy your Beastly Gaming Machine!

P.S: Man, faulty GTX 970? That is one heck of a bad luck..
