I have an Amped Wireless APA20, and I'd like to set it a as router, like the RTA15. Is this possible?

Perhaps via firmware?

An Access Point device has a function
A router has a function. Some of that router function does what an Access Point does.

The other way around does not work. Otherwise, they'd just sell it as a router.

An Access Point is merely a WiFi passthrough device. A router does a whole lot of other stuff.

I understand that, but a router can be switched to act as an access point, and they generally cost the same...

That may be, but an AP cannot be switched back to a router. Does not work vice-versa. I would just get a new inexpensive router to plug the AP into.

I'm planning on selling it if I can't set it up as a router, WiFi isn't important enough to me to set up a whole other box for it.

Honestly though, I' find it curious that I can't seem to find anywhere where someone else has even questioned this.

Do they really make different hardware for each?
That would be surprisingly diligent for any company.

I know this, but if the device has the same design, it's very possible, like with different router models, that you can upgrade with open-source firmware, that they merely disabled these functions with software.
