The Alienware motherboard you have is a standard mini ITX motherboard, with a 16 lane PCIe 2 slot. There's nothing wrong with the motherboard you have!

You'll need to make sure you case is large enough for a 970 and has sufficient airflow (I'd be surprised if the Alienware case would manage that).
PLUS, you'll need a decent powersupply (again, I'd be surprised if the PSU that came with the system is up to the task).

BUT, provided your case and PSU can handle the GTX 970, your motherboard is perfectly capable. It'll just drop into any case that supports Mini-ITX motherboards (which most mATX and ATX cases do).

I really don't think you need to upgrade that motherboard at all!

What's prompting you to upgrade?

Motherboard's have very little impact on performance. More expensive motherboard simply offer more features/functionality, and/or better power delivery for higher overclocks. Given you have a locked CPU (can't be overclocked), the choice of which motherboard is right for you is as simple as figuring out what features and functionality you need.

How many SATA ports?
How many USB ports
Do you need/want dual NICs? Wifi?
Do you want the option of dual video cards (or tri?)
Do you want high end audio
etc, etc.

Because the i5 2320 is the 2nd gen. lga1155 socket cpu, the b85 ( lga1150) doesn't support it, you can buy either b75, H77, Q77, Z75, H67, etc. even H61 can do the job done too. And you don't post what is your budget, and where you will buy the MB, so go to those site find the good deal. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/ or http://pcpartpicker.com/ or http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/
Like Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H, ASRock H77 Pro4-M, etc.

Im from india and have the alienware x51 motherboard which is 2 years old. People recommended me to go for the new one because im not sure wether the bios of this motherboard will be compatible with the graphic card. In india we get intel and gigabyte motherboards primarily so i really need help figuring this out. The budget is not an issue as long as it is below or near 7000K (~112$US)
This is the site where i usually buy products

Thanks again
