I replaced the case for an external hard drive and now my laptop asks me to format my hard drive. I want to have access to my data. I tried changing the letter of the drive but that did not help. What else can I try?

Information about my Drive:

Seagate Backup Plus SRD0SD0.

I was also going to try the same with a Seagate SRD00F2.

Hey there, Joe!

Can you please tell me the model of your external HDD? If it was hardware-encrypted, you most probably won't be able to retrieve the data.
The only possible yet not certain way to get it, is to plug the drive in the same model enclosure because it is tied to the PCB of that enclosure.
Another thing you can try is some sort of a third-party software to recover the data, but that would be possible only if the drive doesn't incorporate a hardware encryption.
Here's a thread that might help you with that: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/291895-32-best-data-recovery-software

Hi again, Joe!

Did you try any of the suggested utilities in the thread I sent you?
Here's another thread that might be useful: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/283480-32-files-external-hard-drive-formatting
What is the status of the drive in Disk Management? Can you share it please?
Just don't format it under any circumstances. Try the threads for ideas on how to retrieve the data.
However, keep in mind that you should always have at least 2 copies of your data on separate locations to avoid such unpleasant situations.
