So as the title says, my network adapter says "Network cable unplugged", when connected to the router. There is no light on the router indicating a connection. When I connect my computer directly to my laptop I get a connection without a problem. When I connect my laptop to my router, it gets a connection without a problem either. I have tried 2 routers 30 cables, changed some duplex speed in the device manager (is back to auto) and I have updated network drivers, and its the same result.
My motherboard is an asrock z77 extreme4

When you connect to the laptop, does it ALSO show a connection? Different pins are used on cross-over (host to host) rather than host to switch. If there were a bent "finger" (the wire in the RJ45 port that contacts the cable) your computer might show link, but the laptop would might not.
