Looking for a GPU that will play most games on ultra settings, 1080p at 60 fps if possible.

If that isn't possible I could just hold out and save up for a GTX 970, but a couple of people have told it's not worth it.

I'd love to hear what you guys think, and thanks a bunch for reading :)

Solution
R9 280x for under £200 mate easily.
The gtx 970 is around 15% more powerful but 30% more expensive so its a matter of choice.
What is the rest of your rig??

Hey dude, thanks for replying,
Here's the build without the GPU

Everything is still subject to change but that's pretty much final

The new Catalyst drivers are supposed to increase performance, and if you overclock with a Tri-X it will beat a stock 970. Also, NeverSettle for 3 games with an R9 290. By the way, you linked your partpicker wrong, copy the permanent link or the export thing.

EDIT: It will beat a 970 just, and occasionally it won't.

Everything looks good, and if you get the AMD card, later you can get a Freesync monitor. The G-Sync ones are really overpriced because of Nvidia charging for the use of G-Sync.

Swap the board for the ud3p mate for a tenner more

It really is worth it IMO.
To warrant a 970 or a r9 290 with an fx chip you really need to be running minimum 4ghz.
Which means an aftermarket cooler (the 8320 stock one is poor unless you happen to get the 4 heatpipe one which is luck of the draw) which I would always use anyway - 212 evo £25 well worth the outlay.
I would pick a 970 over a r9 290 any day of the week - I've had amd cards for years but after replacing my 280x with a 970 I'm a convert - its thevbest card nvidia have produced for years - performance increase is not massive but for me with a matx htpc build the lower temps/noise/power draw are a massive improvement.
I think you'd be happy with a 280x to be fair.

MSI gaming one for £182 is a good buy

Great points for the the 970. But I'm always an AMD guy. AMD is a big silly dog, slobbering all over everything, always happy to see you, and it runs as fast as it can, when it's done it'll be panting and sweating like hell. But come on, who doesn't want a big silly dog.

^ yep mate - I'm only a convert to the 970 ,nothing more - its a card that amd don't really have an answer to at the moment short of dropping the price of the r9 290 - even then the tdp & design of the 970 makes it a better card comparatively apart from price.
The 290 is just too big & hot for smaller cases & matx builds.
Apart from the 970 & maybe the 750ti which both have their market segments sewn up I'd go with amd every time ,the 270/270x/280/280x are unbeatable value for money.

^ the 280x & 8320 are fine on a decent 500w PSU,the 290 maybe a 600w but that corsair 600 will do the job fine either way.

You don't ever need more than 600 watts, for any single GPU and CPU system. Even with a 9590, and an R9 290X at full load, you won't use 600 watts.
