what is the best way to extend my wifi signal from my guest house to my main house? About 500 yards through wooded area?

This is the best, although you might have to boost the signal at both ends. You could also look into commerical point to point wireless (not a wireless repeater or point to point wireless with routers) but you'll need a clear line of sight either through a gap in the trees or by going over the tress. The gap would need to be at least 3ft in diameter all the way through.

Do you have line of sight from one house to the other? Even from the roof or a phone pole or something? You could set up a MESH network or a directional repeater. It really depends on how much work you want to put in to it.

My first thought would be to run a cable from the router to the guest house and plug in a wireless reciever there (provided it has power).
