build is 3 years old, all parts bought new except core 2 duo processor and built dec 2011.
running great until last nite, system locked up with continuous tone and frozen mouse on screen, after manual shutdown then restart got constant short beeps[about 12-15 i guess, didnt count them]
then pause then same series of beeps, followed by auto power off then restart with same results.
after firing up secondary box, and a quick search, same issue with a poster and suggested memory problem, so i removed ddr3 stick 2 and reboot was as normal.

reinstalled ddr3 stick 2 and repeat of above failure.

removed stick 2 again and removed stick 1 and installed sick 2 into first slot, boot was as normal, shutdown and installed stick 1 in slot 2 and reboot was as normal, with win7 64 bit properties screen showing 8 gig mem and upon boot saying dual channel as before [when booted with one stick in slot one, boot screen indicated single channel as it should.

so, i downloaded memtest86+ and will run it this evening, anything else to look for or do i just need to bite the bullet and buy a new pair of ddr3 mem sticks?

thanks for any advice

Do you oc the cpu? If yes, clear the CMOS by removing the battery, and try boot the PC w/o ocing.
And if you don't oc the cpu, then still try clear the CMOS, and to see you can boot the PC or not. If you can't, then remove one RAM, boot the PC, then
1) Try install the intel chipset driver https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=20775
2) Update the BIOS, if you don't do it yet by using the @BIOS, but when you do it, don't use the online method. You are better to download the BIOS into the USB drive, then update.
3) try clean the memory slot by Compressed Air.
put back the ram to try again.

thanks for all the help....I will be using a small air tank in a few to clean it out really good, and will clean those mem slots when I do.

no overclocking here, just running as normal. will check the bios also but I think its flashed to latest already, will also check on the intel driver too.

its running now since I got home from work, with the two mem sticks swapped slot for slot...weird........

well, shut it down and took the box outside and used the compressor to blow the dust out of it, cleaned it all up reinstalled the ram and cables.
during bootup, I got the same boot fail as previous, so then pulled slot 2's stick and rebooted, but still got the failure[stick 1 was the original stick 2 ram] so then pulled stick 1 and reinstalled the other stick and it booted as normal[indicating a faulty stick of ram u would think].

then, shut down again and readded the second stick, this time, as earlier it booted as normal, so I made a bootable cd of memtest86+ and ran that, but it reports no errors.....also ran the win 7 mem test without finding any errors, so I guess I have a random bad stick since it showed up in both slots but subsequently ran later on.......
haven't verified bios version yet, will do that this weekend and also verify the g41 chipset driver as well, but for now she is chugging away........

**UPDATE** Checked bios and chipset and both are latest version, though this is still old as board is old..............oh well, using the box to post this so..........
