I want to use the DLink DL-704P as a print server ONLY. The modem/router is a Cisco DPC3008 connected to a TP-Link TL-SG1008D 8 port hub. Any combination of 2 works, but not all 3 together.
The desired configuration is the DPC3008 connected to the TL-Link hub and the DLink also connected to the TL-Link Hub by an ethernet port (not WAN).
The DLink DHCP server is disabled and the IP address set to 192.168.0.2. The Cisco IP is 24.156.213.93, Subnet Mask 255.255.240.0, Gateway is 24.156.208.1, DHCP Server is 24.226.1.122. This configuration works for internet & local network, but not for the print server. PING does not see the DLink Print server. Can anyone advise what the solution is? Thanks,

Problem solved.
The Cisco DPC3008 is ONLY a cable modem...It has no router functionality, therefore no DHCP server. I swapped this modem for a Cisco DPC3825 which is a modem/router with 4 ethernet (10/100/1000) ports and WIFI. The Cisco WIFI was also tuned off as my network has no WIFI components.
The TL hub is redundant, but could be used if a larged network is needed.
As suggested in other threads, I changed the LAN IP on the DLink unit to one greater than the IP on the DPC3825: eg: 192.xxx.x.2 instead of 192.xxx.x.1. The DHCP server was disabled. The DLink was conneted to the Cisco router via the ethernet ports...NOT the WAN port.
The result is a small home network running off of the Cisco router and the DLink DI-704P functions as a print server. The other network elements are 2 PCs and a VOIP (Magic Jack).
