System broke after one year. Mobo or CPU faulty?

System main components:
Asus Z87-PRO mobo
Intel Core i7 4771 3.5 Ghz
4*8GB Corsair CL10 1600Mhz Vengeance
Fractal Design Newton R3 600W PSU
Asus GeForce GTX660

Ran great for a year and then last week it wouldn't start properly. Fans and LEDs run for a few seconds and then dead. No POST or bios.

POST LEDs on mobo does not come on and the onboard "display" only shows "00" during the short life sign.

During troubleshooting I only have the necessary components connected an tried both with and without the GeForce.

First I thought it was the PSU, but after trying another identical PSU I ruled that out. But while messing around with power cables I notice that if I unplugg the 8-pin 12v "ATX" CPU power connector from the mobo, the machine starts. It stays on, HDD has activity, but no video or onboard LEDs and the onboard display only displays 00.

So, what do you think? Mobo or CPU? Shouldn't be RAM, right? How would I figure out which is the faulty component? Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
