Good afternoon all you lovely people. <3

*Some important-ish info: I'm a college kid that spends more time gaming than doing homework (lol) (Meaning I can't drop a TON of money on a CPU) and I'm working on building myself a new tower.
I *don't* play BF4 or CoD or any other first person shooter games. I simply don't like them. However, I do play MMORPG games like Archeage, FFXIV, LotRO, Tera, and eventually Black Desert when it releases. So basically graphically intense games including dungeons and PvP.

*[ The part below this is really just babbling...feel free to skip over it :p ]

I don't really like to lag when someone's trying to chop my head off in PvP (who honestly likes to lag anytime at all?) and I don't necessarily need to play on uber-high graphic settings (but low graphics suck so Med-High would be ideal) but my main concern is not having the screen freeze waiting for my CPU to catch up to the server.

After hours of reading forum posts I've learned that most games don't utilize a whole bunch of cores and multi-threading which leads me to believe that Intel would in-fact be better for gaming.
However: I am an AMD fan. ( ^^ )

*So here's my question:
Is it smarter to get an older CPU like an FX 6300 and then spend the extra money on something like an r9 290x GPU? or should it be a little more balanced out with say an FX 8320 and an R9 270x?
Or have I just confused myself totally. :p

Solution
For your situation id say get the better gpu. any cpu on amd side above the 6300 ( includes it aswell ) will be good for you and wont cause frame drops
