Suddenly Extremely Slow Internet on ONE Computer

Hey, all.

Within the last few days I have been getting VERY low download speeds on one computer. I can't even run a speed test or download a very small file without getting an error. To my knowledge, nothing is different between my computer today than it was last week. My roommates have no problems with their speeds. I'm generally pretty computer-savvy but I'm at my wit's end with this.

Thank you for your help!

Edit: Managed to squeeze out a speed test: http://www.speedtest.net/result/3978062290.png
Maybe this will help, too: http://puu.sh/dqKVr/737ac1edff.png

Thanks for your response. Any advice on how to remedy the above?

It depends on how your computer is connected to the internet a little, if it's easy to swap from a wireless connection to a Ethernet connection or vice versa then try that first. The other thing to try is either uninstall any 3rd party Firewall you have and any AV you have and test [or] disable any filters they have placed on the connection device (normally the nic) and test. The 2nd approach doesn't always work....

Also try keeping an eye out for other symptoms, try pinging your router and your dns provider. Of course there's also the obvious... opps I have 3 walls and misc stuff between the router and my computer and wireless is so slow.... issue, I hope you've already checked that one. Also try restarting your computer, some misc glitches will cause slow-downs.

I've reset my router and laptop multiple times. I don't have any firewalls or anything similar. I use Malwarebytes as needed but a recent scan doesn't come up with any threats. The laptop has been tested in multiple locations with the same results. I tried pinging my local IP (10.0.0.1) and get an average response time of 2ms. When pinging my DNS, however, every request times out.

Edit: Pinged one of the public Google DNS servers with no issue. Manually changed my DNS over to that... Same slow speeds, though...

Gaming latency speeds are perfectly fine via ethernet. I went from 4000ms to 20ms in WoW, BUT even while wired, my individual downloads are still failing and web browsing speed is lagging. I'm trying to reinstall Chrome and I'm getting an estimate of 11 hours remaining even though the Speedtest says I'm getting over 60MBps down. Also, as soon as I unplug from the ethernet, my speeds drop dramatically across the board including WoW ping.

Okay it sounds like you have a software issue of some sort, you need to figure out what software is tied into your nic/wireless and either uninstall/reinstall it or disable it. Since you said that you have no AV and no Firewall, I can't suggest much off-hand. Try going to your network connections and opening the properties window, do this on both the nic and wireless and post whatever is listed under "this connection uses the following items". While you're at it you should check your RAM and CPU utilization, just to eliminate it.

Thanks for your help through this. I ended up figuring it out. Had to change my adapter configuration and disable 802.11n Mode. After that was disabled it started working perfectly.
