Can't open any files on my HDD.

Recently my HDD type changed to raw after the power went out, while I was making a new partition. After turning my computer back on I found that the drive could not be accessed and I thought I had lost everything. But after a couple of weeks of trying various things, I have managed to change it back to NTFS and keep all the files on the HDD with the file directories intact.

The problem I am having now is that none of my files will open. For example I click on a photo using windows photo viewer and it just says " windows photo viewer can't open this picture because either photo viewer doesn't support this format or you don't have the latest updates to photo viewer" Another example is video files will launch in VLC but nothing happens.

I would appreciate it if anyone had any advice or solutions? Thanks

If you had "raw" format and changed to NTFS then the whole drive MUST be erased, but recoverable. I think that you HAVE recovered all the files BUT they are corrupted by faulty recovery or re-written by something else. Know i know this because for about 1 1/2 year ago my computer had gotten some virus worms that made it incompatible to boot, i used the recovery software that i got with my pc and all files where back BUT corrupted and after a few week i just gave up hope and completely re-formatted and re-installed windows on my pc. Now i have a Back-up HDD just in case if would happen again and i also "refresh" my pc every 3rd month or so to ensure it won't happen again...

Now what i wanna recommend to you is just re-format the whole HDD and completely re-install windows. I would also heavily recommend that you have a second HDD as backup just in case if it would happen again.
