First of all, thank you for looking into my thread. As the title says, I've recently upgraded my cable internet from 50 mbps to 105 mbps (Comcast). At this time I've only been able to reach 50 mbps, and only a low 1 mbps upload speed. I believe the problem is with my computer, because the Comcast installer was able to achieve 100 mbps on his lap top. I'm not sure which settings I'll have to change to get my computer to work, but I'll try to list what I've done and any info I have as best as I can.

OS: Windows 7
Motherboard: Biostar TZ68A+ http://
Network Card: Realtek 8111E
Router: Netgear Nighthawk R7000
Modem: MOTOROLA SB6121 SURFboard http://

What I've Done
- Upgraded network card: no change
- Upgraded and changed out cables running from modem to router, and router to computer (computer is wired to router) : No change
- Changed Speed and Duplex in Advanced card settings to 100 mbs full duplex: No change
- Plug computer directly to router : No change, made it worse (read below)
- Refreshed signal from comast, but its not the problem as installer could get the signal
- Turned off Norton Firewall: No change

Information to Note
- Its strange, but when I plug the modem directly into my computer will not connect to the internet until I reset both the router and the modem. Then, when it final does connect, the speed will at around 5 mbps second or worse. Sometimes it won't even get through the entire speedtest. Are my setting messed up for network device? Does anyone know any optimal settings to put it at? My computer works fine when connected to the router, well not fine, it still only gets up to 50 mbps. Before I upgraded to 100 mbps, I had the same issues with intermittent connectivity.

I'll update this post as I go along. Please let me know if you need any more information from me, and thanks for the help in advance!

Your hardware setup should get you the full speed.

I would try another computer, plugged directly into the modem, and see what speeds you get. I suspect the connection from the ISP may not be at the full advertised speed consistently, despite what the tech showed you on the laptop.

So for some updates of what I've done. I've updated to Windows 8.1, which fixed a bunch of registry problems I was having with Windows 7. Norton's Firewall is off. Still no pick up in speed.

The reason I think it might be my computer is that when I connect my computer straight from my modem (skipping the router) the speed gets worse. It drops a lot.

I wish I had another computer that I could plug it into.

Install Windows 8.1 has fixed the problem of connecting directly into the modem. I received almost 60 mpbs, and 12 mpbs upload speed. That's the quickest I've got so far. Tracing back to router now.
