I bought these for a very cheap price (970a-d3p motherboard and spec01 case). I have 2 3pin fans (120mm) so far. My question is what is the best fan setup considering I have a 550 watt psu (power is not an issue). I would really like 2 (120mm) fans at the front, 2 (120mm) fans on top and 1 (120mm) fan in the back. Which ones should be controlled by the bios? And what splitter and pwm fans do I need to get the job done?
Thanks

Hi there,
The fan plugged into 'CPU FAN' motherboard header should be the one that blows air in your cpu cooler. Some motherboard have another header labelled OPT CPU or OPT CPU FAN. These are for dual fan cpu cooling settups. These fan headers will let you control the speed of the fan from BIOS or software if they are 4 pin (PWM fans). My call would be to set your cpu cooler fan into the cpu fan header, then manage to set your other fans either directly in your PSU or into a fan controller. The problem when you plug a fan directly into the PSU, it's that it will run at 100% all the time and might be noisy.

Yea, thanks. I think if I have a good cpu cooler like the cooler master hyper 212 evo. With two intakes and a couple fans blowing out (net positive pressure given the CFM) I should be fine. This is actually my first build, not going to play games (I just run mathematical/stats/physio and bio software for university) much so no worries about heat. ALSO I am using an asus gtx 660 graphics card.
Thanks again
