As the title says I'm having a little trouble finding the right sized ssd. I was planning on putting my os on it (windows 8.1) and my games my first thought was to get the crucial mx100 512gb would that be enough I'm also planning on getting a 1tb western digital caviar black for my other games.

I agree with USAFRet.....256GB is a large SSD.....I have installed two of them in computers, the others have all been 128GB. The OS and a few select programs really benefit from the SSD - other programs don't benefit as much, and given the price of the SSD as compared to a HDD, you should be selective as to what you install on the SSD.

On my laptop, I removed the 1TB drive that was in it, and placed a 128GB Samsung 840 EVO - plenty of room for Windows 8.1, Microsoft Office and a few programs (still over 60GB free). I placed the HDD in a USB3 enclosure and permanently save files there....

Of all my computers at home, only my main rig has a 256GB - and I am only using about 90GB on it....should have put the 128GB in.

My main machine has a 120GB as the primary drive. OS and all applications. Currently ~70GB used space. I'm adding 2 x 250GB SSD, because they were A. cheap, and B. because I need to move drives around for a new build, and C. Newegg shipping sucks (long story).

With all the awesome hardware out there.....it is so easy to get the top of the line everything for a PC and spend an outrageous amount of money on the computer. I have learned to keep a budget, and make sure that I get the most utilization possible from hardware. Example - the Samsung 840 EVO 128GB went on sale for $55 over Thanksgiving.....the 850 EVO 128GB was around $110....the 850 EVO is a better drive, faster and supposedly more reliable....but is it worth twice the price?

Also, on my HTPC I purchased a 4TB WD Black for the recording drive....that is a lot of room for recording....and I have yet to go over 700GB of use....I should have used my head....

That is the two that are being added. The existing drive is a Kingston HyoperX, 2+ yrs old.
