First off my specs are

AMD 6 core (not sure of model anymore)
ASRock 870 extreme3
XFX R9 270
4GB Ram

about a month ago I was partitioning a hard drive and once I restarted the computer and disconnected the HDD and tried to reboot, it would turn on but no picture. I figure its the GPU so I fix the cord, nothing, restart, restart, about 3 more times, and now it only turns on for a second and back off. I've replaced the PSU, and GPU already and im at a loss. I truly hope its not the motherboard. I've also already reset the cmos. Any help is appreciated.

It sounds like the motherboard to me. In the same scenario a while back, it turned out to be the motherboard for a build I'd done. In my case, the CPU went with the motherboard. If I were you, I'd try to see if you can hear or smell anything from the motherboard. Also make sure to power cycle the machine by unplugging and holding your power button for 15 seconds or so.

And just for a troubleshooting question, does the heatsink for the CPU get extremely hot as soon as you've powered on? Fans all spinning?

I have a hyper212+ the fan does spin up in the half second of power, I'll see about the smell and the power cycle too

Also make sure the 4 or 8 pin CPU power cable is connected to the motherboard from the power supply. It's probably the most common cable that becomes too loose while working in a PC. It's located right next to the CPU on most motherboards.

I can ensure both power cords have been secured, and at this point Im assuming its the mobo, but is there any sure fire way to know before I waste anymore money trying to fix this?
