Is 2Gb of vram enough

The hole video ram shenanigans has been trending lately. People are saying 2GB is enough for 1080p gaming and other's are saying you need more than 4Gb of Vram. I'm currently waiting for the R9 380 and GTX 960, but apparently these cards will only have 2Gb of Vram.

Can someone show some actual facts?

4+ GB of VRAM is only necessary if you want to game at 4k, if you are gaming at 1080p, 2GB is enough for you. But if you want to move up to 1440p or something, perhaps get a GPU with 3GB of VRAM.

Only time 4GB would benefit is if you used 2 way or more sli with a 144hz monitor at 1080P.

Besides that, nope. that's why the gtx 960 only has 2gb of vram.

I would add that most 1080 games are fine with 2GBs. There are some games however (modded usually.) that need more then 2GB. If you play a lot of modded RPGs then you might want to get a 3 or 4GB card.
