Windows 7 machine doesn't like to play on Microsoft network

Situation: a small home network behind a NAT firewall from the internet,
with a variety of windows platforms, XP, Vista, 7, and 8.1

The XP, Vista, 8.1, and other 7 machines all like each other
and share files/printers ok. Everything is done with a windows workgroup
(because of the older machines). Network discovery is on everywhere.
Everything is wireless here

One machine, the one with most of the media and files, has a lot
of trouble with classic Microsoft networking. It will work for a short
time ... then it will stop. It can't see anything else in classic filesharing,
& none of the other machines can see it. It is a windows 7 SP1 with
current patches, x64, & for the moment, firewalls, antivirus are all off.
Sometimes I can get things to work for a while by randomly re-sharing
some part of the file system on the sulky 7. Then time passes, & everything
is disconnected again.

This has recently gotten a lot worse - in the past connection would last
(or reconnection wouldn't be a problem) for months, but now it seems like
it's minutes.

What is wrong? Are there any tools or monitoring that would help debug
this? Router config issues? Anything?

If you don't have anything valuable on that troublesome windows 7 computer, you could do a fresh format on it. I suspect it could be the wifi adapter in the computer. You could try a wifi adapter and see if that helps.

I wouldn't do that kind of thing anyway, not without a solid theory anyway,
but that machine has the media, the storage array & software &c, & I'm
not going to smash that.

I'm thinking there's something up with the wireless networking. The
router (a Linksys E3000) seems to partition this machine off from the
rest, for no reason I know. The host's adapter is a Qualcomm apteros 11 abgn;
windows says the driver is up to date, dated 6/14/2012, ver 10.0.0.67
