my current setup includes a 4670k and a tri-x 290 and a rosewill capstone 750w gold. I can run most games on ultra but a friend of a friend is selling an xfx r9 290 black oc for $165. Seems like a good deal to pass up but do I really need it? Also I dont know if my psu can handle crossfire.

IMO if your running a 1080p res monitor no. It's just overkill for that resolution.if you got the extra cash sure good price.if your gonna run higher res monitor say 1440 an higher 4k ect you'll see the gains otherwise nope. as far as psu issue's you'll be close on limits for xfire an system wattage. I'm personally running 2 290's with an 850psu good luck
to be honest i can't guarantee if there will be problem although your PSU seems like a very good one based on review done by jonnyguru. but you might going to push your unit hard when both card fully loaded. other than that just a reminder about multi GPU setup in general; it is not for people that expect everything to work on the get go. always expect trouble.
