Hello guys can you help I've got a Asus a8vm mb with a GeForce 7900gtx and amd 64 x2 4600 cpu and a thermaltake 470w,I'm finding since upgrading the cpu I'm finding my pc will switch itself off at random times I can hear the graphics card working harder when playing games and the cpu does get pretty hot but not sure if my psu is up to the task and the pc sometimes locks up on powering off so not sure ,anyone have any ideas? Thanks

The issue with the PC turning itself off is definitely caused by the temperatures, while the freeze during controlled shut down is most likely caused by faulty software. I don't know what software in particular is causing the problem, which is why I recommend reinstalling windows (its generally a good idea to do this when you install new components to avoid problems). It can also be tricky to get rid of all the software that was used for your previous component, so a fresh windows install is foolproof and will likely end up saving you time.

Take the side panel off to lower the temperature of the components in the case. If the problem is still there try getting a fan and point it into the computer. If this doesn't work then temperature is not the problem.

If cooling the computer down doesn't work it could be the motherboard vrm is being over worked

The PSU is powerful enough for your system so it's possible that the problem is caused by overheating. Install HWMonitor and check the temperatures after a few minutes of gaming.

It could also be caused by software problems. Have you uninstalled all the software from your old GPU and replaced it with the newest drivers for your 7900gtx?

I would recommend reinstalling windows and getting new drivers, the lock ups while powering off sounds like software issues.

Yeah 100C is unacceptable. Might be time to invest in an aftermaket cooler. I think your problems is definitely caused by high temps.
