Firstly, thanks for taking the time to read! I;m not sure whether i posted in the correct forum but do let me know if it is the wrong one. okay here it goes;

I get spontaneous reboot whenever i stress my system with heaven or firestrike. In firestrike, it usually happen during combined test and as for heaven, it will happen towards the end of the cycle or benchmark. In short, it will take a few minutes before it reboots.
I had manage to replicate the conditions that will cause spontaneous reboot;
1) CPU OC'ed to 4.6ghz (Gpu completely stock)
2) CPU stock but GPU OC'ed (even mildly like raising the power limit to 110% and increasing clock speed by +50 without touching anything else)
I can only pass both tests if both CPU and GPU is at stock speeds.

I suspect the culprit might be either GPU or PSU(leaning more towards this) not supplying enough power because I have been using my OC for the past year without any problems even with my previous card, R9 280x dcu2 top which uses more power. i dont really know for sure as it might something else that im not aware of. To further support that cpu is not the problem, i stressed it with x264 and realbench for 2 hrs both passed without any errors. i can pass CPU stress test but i cant with 3d stress tests.

The only recent change to my setup is the GPU (2 weeks old). It bothers me a lot because now i cant use my CPU OC and everything is on stock. Is there something that i had missed?

things that i had tried;
1) check Mobo and GPU connections

Your advice would be a great help! thank you in advance
specs;
CPU i5 4690k 4.6ghz @1.310v
MOBO Asus z87-a
GPU MSI gaming 4G GTX 980
PSU Corsair VS 650w
DIMM Corsair vengeance LP 2x4GB
SSD Plextor120gb
HDD WesternDigital 1TB

yeah..thats what i thought too. I've been referring to that thread a lot recently as I'm already planning to buy a new PSU. My concern is that after changing the PSU the problem would still persist. Previously, Before the GTX 980, I had a R9 280x and used with my OC 24/7 without any problem. I'm still puzzled as the 280x would consume more power technically? But the 280x had a 8+6 pin power connector whereas the 980 8+8 pin. please do correct me if im wrong.

just for the record, i checked event viewer and had critical message stating that "event-41, kernel power" which might suggest that it is related to my PSU. Google suggested the same too. I can only assume for the time being until i can get a good quality PSU next week. I guess the moral of the story would be not to skimp on PSU. Thanks for the answer!
