A few weeks ago, I experienced a problem with my PC whereby I stopped being able to install nVidia drivers as I got a "Data is invalid" error. Sfc was showing irreparable corrupt files and chkdsk kept running at startup. I ran MemTest and the free version showed no errors.
I re-installed Windows and it appeared to fix it. I have hardly installed any software on the PC but now I am getting more problems and sfc is reporting irreparable corrupt files again. Chkdsk runs at boot time occasionally and finds orphaned files. My network icon is showing a red cross despite being able to connect to the internet and my Windows Update settings keep changing back from "Download but let me choose" to "Off".
I am running an OCZ Vector with the latest firmware and the SMART attributes seem OK. This feels like a hardware failure somewhere but I'm not really sure. Any ideas?
