Windows Update Resetting, Chkdsk Running, SFC corrupt files - Help please?

A few weeks ago, I experienced a problem with my PC whereby I stopped being able to install nVidia drivers as I got a "Data is invalid" error. Sfc was showing irreparable corrupt files and chkdsk kept running at startup. I ran MemTest and the free version showed no errors.

I re-installed Windows and it appeared to fix it. I have hardly installed any software on the PC but now I am getting more problems and sfc is reporting irreparable corrupt files again. Chkdsk runs at boot time occasionally and finds orphaned files. My network icon is showing a red cross despite being able to connect to the internet and my Windows Update settings keep changing back from "Download but let me choose" to "Off".

I am running an OCZ Vector with the latest firmware and the SMART attributes seem OK. This feels like a hardware failure somewhere but I'm not really sure. Any ideas?

System

  • Intel i&-3930K
    Asus Rampage IV Extreme
    16Gb Memory
OCZ Vector 256Gb SSD Boot Drive
    Asus Geforce GTX690
    Asus Phoebus
    Seagate Storage Drives x2

Solution
Pretty straight forward diagnosis, if chkdsk is showing orphaned files the drive is going. Back up important data immediately and replace the drive.

I replaced the SSD and all seems to be fine at the moment. I'm hoping that this is the final solution! Thanks.

I also found out that the reason Windows Update was re-setting was because I am running Bitdefender 2015 with Autopilot ON and the Game & Movie profiles disable Windows Update. This function can be switched off in the Profile settings.
