Hi,

So I'm looking forward to building my second computer and I would really like some advice from all of the knowledgeable people here.

I have to confess that my first computer case was chosen for looks rather than function to my detriment. I recently began podcasting and found that my old case which I already knew to be loud, made it difficult for me to get a good clean sound. So I've set out to build a computer that is much quieter than the one I have now.

Now I know that my case comes from a couple of good fans in the Fractal Design Silent Series 140mm. I figured that I might use both as exhaust with one in the back and one in the top. I'm wary of using the side fan because that side will be facing me and any noise with hurt podcasting. Therefore I thought I could take out the top HD cage out for better airflow and put an intake there and one in the bottow of the case.

So my questions are regarding this general setup and maybe most importantly, which fans should I buy? I'm guessing a good fan for the front intake that is both very quiet and pushes air through the case easily and another decent, yet quiet fan for the bottom.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Oh, and here is my computer setup:

Beyond my Fractal case I have:
CPU: Intel Core I-7 3770
CPU Coolerbe quiet! Shadow Rock 2
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H
Memory: 12 GB of OCZ Obsidian
Storage:250 GB Samsung SSD
1TB WD 7200 Caviar Black
1TB WD 5400 Scorpio Blue
GPU:Asus Radeon HD 7770 2GB Video Card
Power Supply:Corsair CS650M

I wouldn't put an intake there I would do 2 intake at the front, 1 exhaust on the back and if you have a spare do 1 exhaust at the top-back. If you ever end up putting a side fan on then put another exhaust on the top. You generally want to keep your intake and exhaust on opposite sides of the case so you are not drawing in anything exhausted.

Also you can take a look at an older guide from tomshardware:

If you need quieter fan's I would take a look into Noctua's active noise canceling fans. Not sure if they are actually out yet but the last few years they were demoed at the electronic shows.

Thanks for the advice. Any ideas on what would be a couple of good quiet fans with plenty of CFM power I should use?

I would look at Noctua's fans personally, but I can also recommend Corsair's SP (static pressure) and AF (air flow) lines. But I'm really biased when it comes to fans. I hear BeQuiet and Scythe is pretty good as well, personally I never used them.

I think he should use 140mm fans personally, they move more air while being quieter.

Ok so If i put two intake fans in the front of my computer, the bottom one will be blowing through both an air filter as well as through and across the installed hard drives. Would it be good then to get a airflow case fan for the top since there will be unimpeded space for maximum flow and get a static pressure fan for the bottom?

Use Static Pressure fans in the front (intake) , Airflow as exhaust.

Should I put one static pressure intake fans in the front of the case or two? I'm assuming that if I put one, the static pressure would be in the bottom going into the drives. Would a strong airflow intake fan be better above the static pressure fan?
