First off I'm from the UK.

My current set up is nearly 5 years old now and still plays most games I wish even if it is on low settings and its about time I build a new one.

It will only be used for gaming nothing else, and I just need the bare essentials. Monitor/Mouse/Keyboard/Operating System won't be required I will upgrade those at a later date, and just use Vista 64 bit for the time being as short on cash!

Top end of the Budget is £1000, though I would prefer to keep it around £800 without any operating system, depends on how much of a performance increase there will be I guess to justify the price.

Also not in a huge rush so curious if it would be better to wait until after Christmas to pick up new deals or cheaper to purchase before hand? No idea if parts see a significant drop in price after the new year.

Thanks for the help I would appreciate some explanation as well as to why you choose said parts so I have some comparison to go by.

--------------------------------------

Approximate Purchase Date: 3-4 Weeks

Budget Range: £800, can push up to £1000 if needed.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming only

Are you buying a monitor: Not yet, using old monitor which run at 1980/1020

Do you need to buy OS: Don't need to but would prefer a new one as will be stuck with Vista 64bit if I do not buy a new one.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Any from the UK, I use ebuyer quite abit, but as long as they are trusted sites I dont mind.

Location: United Kingdom,Nottinghamshire.

Parts Preferences: No preference

Overclocking: Prefer not to, so no

SLI or Crossfire: What ever offers best performance for the price.

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Thank you to everyone who replies!

You won't require a beast of a machine if you are playing MMOs & RPGs and such.....that is unless you are playing 4k modded Skyrim or planning on playing the Witcher 3 or something , heh. You should search on things like the best budget setup...

I would not go for SLI/xfire again. Its inconsistently annoying at times. but I would consider the GPU over any other parts. It would be helpful if you list your current spec, then what you expect from your budget. What games do you play? ...You need to get off Vista.

Do your homework when getting parts, check on benchmarks, price points and weigh them all up. I always try and build something that will last me at the most ~ 5 years, with some forethought about modular upgrades in between, and whether I will be able to recoup some money in selling older parts to help with the upgrade. eg. If you get a mobo, but can't afford the best CPU for that socket yet, then get the next best, and plan to upgrade it later. Undoubtedly, like me though.. The next architecture will be around and you will want to just upgrade the whole lot again. lol

my last build was about 5 years ago :)

8 gig of ddr2 ram I think since it is what the motherboard would support, radeon hd4800, dual core E8400 @3ghz cpu

Yes I hate vista and fully intend to get away from it, but for the sake of getting a good build up and running I would be willing to use it for a month or so until I upgraded.

MMO/FPS was recently playing archeage, back into WoW at the moment but will always be playing the latest mmo's so I do want a pc that can run them on high/ultra.

You won't require a beast of a machine if you are playing MMOs & RPGs and such.....that is unless you are playing 4k modded Skyrim or planning on playing the Witcher 3 or something , heh. You should search on things like the best budget setup for MMOs with benchmarks, to have an idea on what you want to spend. If you play a lot of FPS then you will want frames per second.... which is when it becomes expensive.

I was thinking if you are playing AAA Graphics intensive things, then you have to go big on the GPU to make it last another 5 years. Processors help generally, a good one will serve you maybe beyond 5 years, but the motherboard sockets force you to upgrade before then. Its mostly about the GPU for smooth gaming.
