Solution

though not as good as the sapphire or msi models, saying its near reference is a bit of an exageration.

more than acceptable considering its price compared to a 280x.
for longevity the i5-4460 is better, but the i3-4150 will do fine and can be paired with a high end graphics card with minimal i/o throughput limitations. the fx6300 was at one time a great budget gaming processor, but with no upgrade path and newer stiff competition from intels i3s, the fx processor line is best left for budget non gaming app performance.

a passmark benchmark only give you one aspect. thats like saying the car that has the fastest 0-60 for the cheapest price must be the best.

there is no reason not to trust newegg, tigerdirect, ncix, etc. these are massive companies that directly compete with bestbuy, amazon, etc. for $199 usd, you can easily buy an i5.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($189.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($92.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: Asus Radeon R9 290 4GB DirectCU II Video Card ($269.99 @ Amazon)

also remember that you can always call amazon and try to have them price match newegg, tigerdirect, bestbuy, etc. they are all very aggressive and will tell you outright if they are willing to price match for your business.

Don't pay $225 for a GTX760 when you can get one for $169 at newegg with no rebates - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127744&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

here is the price difference from above if your willing to trust these very reputable companies...

Yes you pretty much get 4x or 5x times the PC by being willing to buy from whichever company has the best sale at the time of purchase.

not at all. there are only a handful of game recent triple a games that will see a minor fps increase if you use an overclocked i5/i7. dont worry about cpu i/o throughput issues, they would be minimal in the worst case scenario.
