Is it with building an overkill PC?

I want to build a PC for gaming, probably 1440p if I can find a good monitor with G-Sync.
I would like an overkill PC (who wouldn't :)) but I'm not sure about the cost effectiveness and the life of the computer. Also a custom water cooled loop. So, is a crazy overkill PC worth it?

This would be overkill. You could go more or less than this. You could put an x99 mobo to go 6/8-core intel with ddr4. You could sli gpus with a couple/few 980s. Or you could put an i5-4690k in and a 970 and you would still get great performance. (Note: You wouldn't need an 850w psu if you only had 1 gpu. Not sure why I did that) Also, you could put 8 gb of ram if you wanted.
