I am a complete noob when it comes to GPUs and I need help choosing one for my first PC Build. I will be using a Dell u2414h IPS monitor, and have budgeted my GPU to under £150. I would like t know which one , the Sapphire R9 270x or the R9 280 is better. (The 280 has 3GB and The 270X has 2GB, but a 1GHZ base clock.) Please help. I am not en expert in this area. Maybe it is worth considering a GeForce for the same price if it has more performance in terms of FPS.

You've got me. This PCI and PCIe thing is something that I don't get very well. I mean apparently, other than a few bandwidth difference they're not that different ( I say this at the risk of sounding like a noob ) but one thing I do know, this matter never came up in any of the many heated discussions and debates and recommendations I've ever given for gpus. So I don't think it's much of a matter. You can trust me on this one. 280 is great card. With great oc capability on good fans like XFX or Sapphire or Asus

If you would believe me, and everyone else here. Go eyes closed with the 280 at 3GB. Clock speed is not all in GPU area. It more depends on the board. R9 280 is clearly a better board. I am not quite familiar with the continental prices, but currently GeForce cards better than the 280 are the 9XX series. The 760,760ti, 770,780 and 780ti. If ANY of these cards come around 150£. They're way worth more. If you can, wait it out for good deals from the web stores. With new year coming they're bound to give some good stealing deals. That said. Given that you want to play at 1080p and high settings at 50-70 Fps, 280 is good to go

Is the fact that the Sapphire R9 280 is PCI (NOT PCI-EXPRESS) important when comparing the performance?
