I'm looking to buy the FX-8 8320E to make a cheap rendering pc, and I'm looking to overclock the cpu as much as possible. The heat sink I'll be using will be a NH-U12S, and the gpu will be an old 5770. What psu would be needed to overclock the cpu considering the above, and what performance gain would I be looking at (0.5 GHz more etc)?

Solution
If i can make a suggestion check out the gigabyte 970a ud3p, I think that's the proper model. It will have 8+2 power phasing which is better than many of the other boards with that chipset. Many times you are buying a 990 series board for that feature. I want to say it will run around 85 or so. I'm on my phone at the moment. But newegg carries it. I would trust it more than some of the cheaper boards i see though. I have the older version of that board and overall it's not bad. A couple of quirks with usb devices, solved with a usb hub, but i have the older version they don't make. Used one like what I'm showing you in a gaming build for someone and no issues that i know of in the last year or so. Power supply, check...
I don't know about the 8320E specifically. What board do you have?

I'm running this PSU.

I have an FX 8120, 8gb of ram, Radeon 7850 cooling the CPU with a cooler master v6 gt. My 8120 is an older CPU, but I've got it clocked to 4.2ghz. Stock was 3.1ghz. According to when I ran 3dmark before it was performing as well or better than some systems with stock 8350.

Thanks for the info. No board at the moment, but I'll be aiming for the cheapest functional one possible as I would like it to be a budget build - so some entry board of ~ $75/£55 ish. Ideally I would like to see if I can get away with a 500 W psu as it is only a cpu + basic gpu setup, but I'm not sure what the power draw on AMD proc are when OC'ed.

Personally i have the 600b which i think has 49 amps on the 12v+ rail. Jonny guru tested the 500b and said overall it was good. Depends what what you want though.

Will do - looks like a solid choice of mobo. Thanks for the info and help!
