HIS R295X2 making obnoxious 'clicking' noise and performance issues

Hey all,

I just installed my new GPU, the R295X2, and am having some trouble with it. Lets start of with the specs:

12 GB Corsair Vengance Ram
250GB Corsair SSD
i7 950 3.9GHz OC
HIS R295X2 (Cat Omega 14.12)
750W Corsair TX PSU

I reformatted my comp prior to install as I was coming from an NVIDIA build previously. On start-up everything was peachy, very quiet running card. First thing I ran was Dragon Age Inquisition benchmark on Ultra and was only getting 30 FPS average and 23 min. So I restarted the application with 'low' graphics presets and was only getting 41 FPS avg and 35 min. That was disappointing enough, but while that was running I began hearing this 'clicking noise'; much like you would from a mechanical hard drive. I tried to capture it on video but it was difficult to grab over the whoosing case fans, if you turn your volume up a little you will be able to hear it:

Noise is present from the beginning of the video:

Starts at ~10 seconds after 3D mark loads:

Temp on the card remains cool ~40C when I hear the noise. I know my PSU is slightly under spec, however, it is of high quality. I do not see any screen flicker or artifacts that would make me believe this is power related. It would be reasonable to jump to a conclusion saying I have a defective GPU given the poor performance in Dragon Age, but my 3D mark GPU score is 19,500.

Does anyone have any ideas? I am going to try it in my friends rig later tonight to try and narrow down the cause.

I appreciate your help,

Tony

It sounds like a mechanical HD, I have all SSD in my comp. Good observation, the only place I could mount the radiator was at the bottom of my case. I had to flip the case upside down so that it would be above the card per installation instruction. I actually bought the card off ebay, the seller is pretty understanding. He said that his first HIS card fried because of a water pump failure so they sen't him a 'new' card which he sold to me. Nevertheless he is accepting my return and I will try again with a different vendor or maybe GTX 980s in SLI :)

Admirable

That's a nice and honest seller you chose, lucky for you :) The 980s are not too bad, they'll be a little bit better with resolutions lower than 4k, so if you game at below 4k, they'll suit your needs nicely. I hope you'll have better luck this time and happy gaming :)
