Okay. This is not the answer for one... I just keep thinking that that is the reply button... Okay then.... But anyways. The xps 8500 has had problems with certain video cards because of its bios. I'm not sure of either.

they rarely lock their bios .. they leave it open 90% of the time

It's not the fact that they lock it, it is the fact that the bios is just sometimes uncompatible with some things. I'll show you a link to the forum post.

This isn't a sapphire card and this isn't hp. People have issues with video cards with dell computers.

hp/dell ... all oem boards are manufactured by foxconn industries ltd china

sapphire manufactured cards usualy have no issues according to my experience

The board? Including the bios? Because the bios is what people have problems with.

usualy yes, they outsource it to american megatrends inc or make their own proprietary bios

I haven't done a BIOS update on a Dell in ages. On any pre-built in fact. It's pretty easy on modern boards that come with utility disks that include a Win-based app to search it out and update it for you. I don't suppose Dell offers anything like that?
Can you link me to the page that includes BIOS updates for your system?

That is a .EXE file that has to be run in Windows. So it appears to be a self-installing BIOS flash. Not like the old days. Get the card, try it with the existing BIOS. If it isn't recognized (I think it will be), take it out and put the old card back in, and do the BIOS update.

The closest one there is the 7870. Which is more expensive than the r9 270x.

And that is why I'm wary about getting a graphics card. Someone on the dell forums just said that the 270 didn't work but the 270x did. And do you think it is safe to update my bios?

its equal to an r9 280

these are the only 2 remaining on newegg
