Windows 7 fails to start after update

Windows 7 fails to start after downloading and installing 122 updates. I accidentally hibernated during installation. It starts normally, then blue screens and blacks out. Safe mode(2 times, it acts the same as a normal startup), system restore(2 times), last known good configuration and startup repair(4 times), all don't work. "A patch is preventing the system form starting" seems to be the problem. Also, an unspecified error occurred during system restore (0x8000ffff) that prevented it from completing successfully.

The laptop in question is a 2012 era Asus A43E that has hardly been used and is practically new, hence the 122 updates. It has 4GB of ram, and an Intel pentium core. I was fixing it up for a close friend, and prior to the failing, I installed malware bytes and the Adobe PDF reader. I also gave him about 40 movies, but that was to his (D: ) drive, whereas the OS is located in the (C: ) drive, and uninstalled some bloatware (stuff like norton (I am confident that I did not uninstall something important)). I don't know if any of this extra information will help, but I am completely stumped.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Hi! You are looking at some deeper level troubleshooting, that is a bit much for 'typing' LOL, your best bet is to install to another drive, recover what you can on C: and reinstall back to C: If system restore won't work, then your registry hives are , basically corrupt, which means you pretty much need to do a reinstall. Sorry :(

Hi
Do you or your friend have a set of recovery dvd's

You may find it easier to recover any important data
Then re install
If recovery disk is windows 7 then you will get sp1 then lots of updates

Note norton Internet security is not bloat ware
You can replace it with another Internet security program suite
Malware bytes free is not a replacement for norton av

You may be able to buy a set of recovery disks from Asus much cheaper than a new windows DVD

Yeah I was afraid it might come to that...I don't have the recovery disks, but I do have a win7 serial product code, and the sp1 version on a usb to boot from, so I still can do a reinstall. But it does seem like the only option now...
