which is better guys, i know both are pretty cheap but im wanting to know what you guys know about the two. ive read good and bad reviews on both so im sceptical on which is better. i wouldn't really wanna go for a water one, h55 being one as id be scared if the pumps somehow broke and leaked water all over my pc. if you guys wouldnt say the h55 then what other ones are good for the price of say 30-50 pound, thanks.

I've always heard pretty good reviews about the hyper 212 evo. Any 'bad' thing with it would be size/weight. It can present an issue with ram in the first slots if the ram has excessively tall heatspreaders on it and the weight of it (like any big air cooler) means you shouldn't transport your tower around much with it installed. Jarring the case with the cooler installed could cause damage to the motherboard, but that's with any larger air cooler. Far as I know, the 212 evo is less expensive than the h55 or h60 and cooling is about the same. At idle, the 212 evo cools a few degrees better than the h55, at peak load the h55 cools a few degrees better. Plus it won't leak.

If you really wanted to go the water cooling route, I'd suggest...

If you really wanted to go the water cooling route, I'd suggest the h100i over the h55 but I think it's quite a bit more expensive and is a 240mm radiator not a 120.

Not sure of the price in the u.k., but if you wanted air cooling better than either of those water coolers the noctua nh-d14 or d15 would be the way to go. It does get pricey though (probably around the same as h100i).

*update - here's a list of coolers and their cooling capacity both at stock and under load for some comparison

thanks for the info synphul and im just wanting a better cooler for my i7 4790, its a non k version and i wont be overclocking but with hyperthreading on its hitting 71 degrees max and while gaming its like 63+ degrees. with hyperthreading off while gaming its around 58 degrees, room temp is 21.

Something like the hyper 212 evo is a decent cooler. It can handle moderate overclocks, works well as an improvement to the stock hsf. It works well and it's pretty budget friendly. A lot of times people opt for an aftermarket cooler just for the fact they cool better and are quieter at the same time. Generally idle temps will be a couple degrees lower, under load they should be around 10 degrees lower than the stock cooler. It's not a noctua nh-d14 but then it's $30 instead of $75 too.

yeah think il go for the evo 212 then, budget friendly and most reviews are really good, i just did a prime95 stress test using small FFT's and it hit 80 after a couple of mins. the most power hungry thing i do is gaming but il also want to stream when i get my gtx 970 so a cooler would be a good idea.
