Please help - Windows 8.1 Bug!

My friend has Windows 8.1 and it told him to restore the hard drive or something and he did that and went away, then when he came back it said success, but all the apps from his Windows were GONE! If he press the Windows key it just shows up the purple stuff in the background and he cannot search for something!

BUT he can use his desktop and all the programs just fine, but he cannot get into Run or stuff like that.
And he tried refresh and restore but it said you need to unlock the hard drive and it said cannot do that blah, blah nothing works!

Please help!!

Is this a laptop or desktop? Also if possible try to download and run crystal disk info and upload a screenshot of its main page.

Kk well heres what I am thinking your OS is corrupt, now this could be because of many reasons buts im either thinking a faulty disk or a bad install. What does "bra" translate to in english?

Why is there a discrepency in terms of temperature? C:/D: 44 degrees but J: is just 33 degrees?

Well if their is no SMART issues on your disk then it is probably not that and just a bad os install. My recommendation is you do a fresh install of windows 8 on your computer (ie from the disk, not the refresh tools.)

Refresh, reset, restore explained

Restore: Removes recently installed apps/drivers.
Refresh: Removes all apps that didnt come with the PC/Windows and all your personal files
Reset: Removes everything, reinstalls Windows.

With that in mind, the best action is usually to just remove the program/driver that is causing an issue.

If the computer is that effed up, might be better to just reinstall Windows completely. Insert Win CD.

OK, he has a CD, but don't you think he has some kind of virus or stuff like that? Will run a virus scan before we refresh/reinstall Windows.

I mean you can, but even if it was a virus you have corrupt windows files and that wont help. I would back up all your data and either to a fresh install of windows, or try to repair windows using the disk. Sometimes with OS's its better just to start from scratch, because otherwise you may not deal with the problem fully.
