AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor
Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB Tri-X Video Card (Just got about 2 weeks ago)
Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P ATX AM3+ Motherboard
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Corsair CSM 650W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
Windows 7 64-bit

Ok, so none of my games will start. They freeze while they're starting up and I have to Ctrl Alt Del to close them. I got the GPU 2 weeks ago but idk if that's the problem, everything was fine until about 2 days ago. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling video drivers, also installing earlier versions. I've tried setting my cpu back to stock speeds (set BIOS to Defaults). I've deleted steam and re-installed games.

I just really don't know what is going on and any help would be appreciated.

also, I don't know if this is relevant but it seems that windows is slowly caching of my ram while its on. In task manager the amount of physical memory free just keeps going down.

I forgot to mention, I tried to OC my CPU around the time this started happening but i think it was unstable so I put it back. and i've tested in Prime95 for about 45 min and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong.

Yes, I had the latest drivers installed when it started happening. Most of my games do this when I try to start them, the one I tried to re-install just now is bioshock infinite. Same problem.

Have you installed required software like Directx for the games?

did you try the lowest settings to see if they will run? Then if they do run grandully tune them up until it just doenst anymore.
Also how is your GPU doing during this? For example is it running at 100% or is it actually running like it would without the game running? that might be why the crashes and saddly it is towards the top of whta might be wrong.

I just tried with CoD: Advanced Warfare (which works for some reason), not on low. And the GPU did get up to 100%.

Yea they all worked before, and I played a few during. Then one froze on start-up so I un-clocked it then it worked. That was yesterday. And today they aren't working again. Freezing immediately on start like before.

Also, I just tried my Origin games and they all work. So i guess it must be a steam problem, right? I'm really hoping its not a hardware problem at this point.

Its 5am and i've been up for like 10 hours straight trying to fix my computer. I've done the most unnecessary & time consuming things.

And it turns out the problem was that I had Msi After Burner and Fraps running at the same time. All I had to do is close either one of them.

I'm a damn dingus. Thanks everyone for trying to help if your seeing this.
