Best build for price/performance ratio

So I have three builds that I'm looking at, and I have a few questions referring to them.

i5 1500 dollar build http://

i5 1700 dollar build http://

i7 1600 dollar build http://

Is the i7-4790k really worth the extra money? I ask because the i5-4690k seems to be a solid CPU capable of tackling most processes only slightly less efficient that its bigger brother.

Is the GTX 980 worth the extra cost for the system? It seems that the $200 dollar increase is a bit steep, I am only seeing a few frames per second difference between the 980 and 970 on the benchmarks I've seen and it really does add a substantial amount to the build price.

Can the power supply handle overclocking and future upgrades? Can the MoBo handle future upgrades? I'm considering adding a second GPU in the future, can the power supply and MoBo handle this with overclocking?

Should I have the Kraken x61 for my i5 builds? Is it worth the extra cost to safeguard from possible damage?

Are these builds somewhat future proof?

What case might better suit a black desk (keeping the side window)?

Good mechanical keyboard?

Good mouse?

Difference between Western digital caviar black and black edition?

Enough RAM?

Any comments you may have would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time :)

Again, it depends on how many videos you plan to release and how long they are. Remember just because an i5 is not an i7, doesn't mean it's a slouch in rendering. And i5 is still a solid all around cpu, but if you are rendering for hours a week an i7 is worth the upgrade.

I didn't know about...

A lot of questions haha, no problem

The i7 depends on your needs, if you are gaming I say no, but if you are editing videos and rendering things often then yes.

Think about it this way the 980 is 200 more so about 12-13% of your build. But it also performs about 10-15% better depending on the game. So price/performance its not better or worse, the ratio is the same it just depends on whether you want it or not. If you are getting a 120mm radiator look at the refurbished corsair h55 or old h60's. They are super cheap like $30 for water cooling. If the x61's are worth it you want to overclock a lot.

Another case look at nzxt they have the h440 in black and white, black and orange, black and red, and black and green. Fractal design arc midi series is good. One of my personal favorites is the corsair SPEC-03 with orange LED's.

8gb is enough for now and its easy to upgrade in the future.

Mechanical keyboards are very different and you should know what switch types you want and features. Some good ones are Ducky keyboards, corsair K series, and many others I can't think of right now.

Mouse is also corsair, razer, logitech, etc. a lot of different ones so a little bit of research is due here and for keyboards.

I think you mean difference between WD blue and black. The WD blue is a standard drive equivalent to the Seagate barracuda. The WD black performs better but it also costs more and is louder so I usually just recommend a barracuda or WD Blue depending on which one is cheaper.

Any other questions?

Thanks for the response! I will be gaming heavily on this machine, as well as recording and then editing videos for youtube etc. so I was wondering if those hyper threads would come in handy. One game in particular, ARMA 3, is said to be quite CPU intensive, so should I opt for the better CPU?

For the Hard drive there's a new line of drives from WD, the Black edition is one of those, the older versions (if I'm not mistaken) are the caviars.

I didn't know about the new black drives I guess its time for me to do some research.
