My XP installation is corrupt and I'm trying to repair it. The laptop won't boot from my XP CD or another one I have. The laptop gives
PXE-E61: Media test faiure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM.
Funny thing is it can boot from DOS CD or Ubuntu Live CD.
I've no reason to suspect the Windows CDs. Anyone know how to work through this?

That error means it's trying to boot from the network, not from your windows XP CD, I'd say your XP copies aren't bootable, probably not properly burned, which software are you using to make them?
Check the CD for cleanliness - fingerprints, dust, smudges, etc., all can stop it from being bootable. If it is dirty, my suggestion is to get a lint free cloth (I keep a micro-fiber cloth in my desk drawer), and I have a small squirt bottle of water - a couple of quick mists on the cloth (not the CD), and wipe in one direction (not circular) and give it a shot again.
