2.5" ATA/IDE to USB/SATA Cable/caddy?

Not worked with old HDD's/laptop's so inquiring here.

I merely want to connect the HDD to my Desktop/Laptop to recover data,
Recovery of the system... I doubt password screen (explained below) related help is given here and is not priority but may be surprising a possibility.

Would an adapter such as this

...be suitable to connect my old laptop HDD to another pc?
Maybe I need to remove it from its "caddy" which plugs it into the laptop? - to use it with a male connecting device? not tried to remove it from laptop HDD tray yet.

Here are some other adapters i looked at but they all seem to have male connectors where i think a female is required (device to HDD).

The laptop seems dead, would be nice to recover my fathers old work data from the Dell Latitude CPi A-Series PPL Laptop.
Will not boot without a password (shows no area to type password, neither the digits/asterisks when typing a password. Also goes to the same password request window when entering setup ((shows F2 option on bootup)) [as pictured below])
[NOTE; Monitor seems dead, I connected it to another VGA monitor to get the boot images]

The IDE drive model is a 20GB 2.5"

Hi

For info

Ata also called pata or ide have different connectors for 2.5" and 3.5" disks but
Sata drives of 2.5" & 3.5" use same connectors
That example supports all 4 varieties the 3.5" drives need a 12V power supply which usually part of kit including a power adapter for sata to molex

I hope the power on password is for laptop not hard disk as hard disk password is almost un breakable

That one I linked was just an example.
At Amazon, look for "USB SATA IDE cable" There are dozens.

I don't remember the exact one I have, but it has worked on 100% of all the drives I've tried it with, assuming the drive itself was OK. Old laptop drives, new 3.5" SATA drives, whatever.

Okay thanks. I know what adapter type to look for.

Password seems to be system related, as it takes me there upon entering BIOS too, so linux usb boot drive is ruled out.
Hopefully I can get the data, laptop itself is a bust.

Thanks alot for your help

Thanks, I already use a powered Dual Bay usb 3.0 SATA 2.5 /3.5 with HDD clone option aswell

Password seems most likely a system password as it won't even let me enter BIOS without it. Just the Data i really wanted, a laptop system that old is pretty useless these days. Has a USB and RJ11 connection but not RJ45 =(
Password bypassing discussions seem... "taboo" here but let's just say I am familiar with bootable linux flash drives

Hi

I have a dell Boot cd for clearing bios admin passwords in old Dell laptops
But if you can't select boot device F12 you can't run the cd program

If you remove hard disk and power on and there is no password prompt then the password is embedded in the hard disk
