curious because the gt 740 on newegg is currently 50$ and requires 20A on 12v rail. power supply is 500W.

dual rail power supplies are always bad to begin with.. throw them out

you will have a ton of issues including artifacts, random shutdown, underperformance etc

Yes. Easily. Both rails are used to power the card so you have more than plenty.
