Solution
You should be able to find a vga to hdmi somewhere. Just make sure the vga side is the correct gender to fit into your laptop.
USB is not (natively) a video connection. VGA is however, as is HDMI. VGA to HDMI would be the solution I would look for.

The 'correct' device should look like an adapter box. The 'cable' devices I am seeing currently are all the wrong direction for your need.

Also keep in mind that VGA is just capable of transfering video, you will need to provide audio from the laptop in another cable, or plug in earphones directly to the laptop.

The some VGA to HDMI boxes have audio input which would be ideal for you if you want to send audio and video in the hdmi cable to your tv. This would be RCA (red/white), or...

it is fat32 but the largest file is only 1.5gb. I tried formatting to ntfs but it fails to. I also noticed that when I go in to properties on the files there is no info on the video/audio details although the original on the pc does. If I delete 1 of the working files I can then install another that previously didn't work and it will work and have the video/audio info complete

Tried a few times but keep getting same message. Will try 1 last time. Got it on ebay so probably dodgy. Think I`d be as well looking for a refund. Would a usb to usb cable from laptop to tv work for playing back or would I need a usb to hdmi cable. I used a vga cable on older tv. Sorry for all the questions but when it comes to electronics I`m as thick as a plank lol
