hey guys! I just built my new gaming rig yesterday and upon installing the hyper 212 evo I found that some of the screw holes needed for the cooler wont fit in my case. My case is the nzxt phantom. So What do I get to cool down my cpu? I am currently using the stock cooler and it is averaging 30 degrees Celsius while doing web browsing and stuff and about 40 (maybe higher don't know for sure don't always check) My cpu is the intel i7 4790k. Thanks for any help!

Yikes. What motherboard are you using?

It looks to me that it's an issue with the CPU position on the motherboard, relative to the gap on the casing that doesn't leave room for the back bracket to be installed - am I correct? In that case, you may be hard pressed to find any aftermarket cooler that might actually fit.

Just to illustrate the problem, this is the Phantom:

As opposed to my Corsair 600T (I'm also using the 212):

Notice how small the gap is on the Phantom (the hole behind where the CPU should be). I'll leave it to others to advise if there are compatible coolers. Good luck.

My advice? Ditch the casing, or cut it. The 212 is a good cooler.

I am using the Asrock z97 and I cant ditch the casing as I just got it and it cost me about 100$

That EVO212 backplate looks pretty standard, so if that doesn't fit I can't imagine many others fitting. I would have thought such a problem with such a popular case would have been highlighted before now. Are you sure you're doing it right? Do you just mean that you can't install it with the motherboard in place, or that it fouls on the case when you try and put the motherboard back?

People rave about the 212 but there needs to be a bit of perspective - cutting up or ditching a $100 case purely for a $30 cooler is madness.

If you're not overclocking then the stock cooler is fine. 30-40 C is hardly a terrible temperature. The only reasons to fit an aftermarket are overclocking, noise and aesthetics.

If you really can't get the 212 to fit then try and find out what other people with that case have managed to get to fit.
