Hello everyone,
I'm pretty good with computers, but never Oced before. This is my first time and I was wondering if someone could help me. I don't know what settings to change in the BIOS menu. My motherboard is an MSI 760GM-E51 with an AMD Phenom II x4 840T@2.90Ghz. Here is what my BIOS looks like

So far I've tried enabling Unlock CPU core, and changed Advanced Clock Calibration to Auto, but both result in my computer turning off with an orange light on the motherboard. Can someone please help and tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

Solution
There are two ways. Increase the CPU core clock's multiplier or increase the base clock. Since your CPU has a locked clock multiplier, you obviously can't increase that. You can only increase the base clock. But increasing the Base clock (Bclock) increase everything else that runs off it too. Not a job for a beginner. You would have to reduce the multipliers of all the other stuff to keep from those items causing a crash. And even if you got a stable OC with the base clock, it would only be a few 100 MHz. Not really worth all the extra effort.

The CPU is a quad core, and I'm trying to unlock the disabled cores but don't know how.

Take ACC out of auto. What options are available?

The options I'm seeing in BIOS for the ACC are Disabled, Auto, All Cores, and Per Core.

Yes, I'm trying to overclock the CPU, and have tried to enable all cores, but as a result my computer automatically shuts off.

Then quit trying to enable possible bad cores. They may have been disabled due to defects. That has nothing to do with OC'ing anyway. OC'ing is increasing the speed of the existing cores.

Ahh, okay. So, how to I go about increasing the speed of the existing cores?

Well, that's a bummer. I just recently got this motherboard to rebuild my old HP desktop and overclock the CPU, the OEM bios had very limited options, and the processor was a tad bit slow for my needs, and since you can't OC an OEM pc, I decided to buy an aftermarket board. I still would like to give overclocking a try, even if there is a small increase in performance. 100MHz isn't much so it shouldn't be too bad. If you could please provide me with a step-by step guide on how to increase the base clock? Or not worth it, will I have to buy a new CPU?

I downloading an overclocking program called MSI control center, and don't know what settings to use for Base Clock, CPU Vocre, CPU NB, HB Voltage, HT Link, and DRAM Voltage. Core is 800Mhz and Ratio is 4.0. Can someone explain this to me?
