Hi, new guy here. Here's the 2 things I need help with:

1. Got a brand new GA-Z97-HD3 motherboard to replace my old ASUS-P7H55-M Pro.
Have my old ATI Radeon HD 7770 on PCIe x16 on new motherboard.
Currently running off of the VGA onboard on an Acer X193w 19".
When I try to connect the card via 6-pin connector, I get no signal from VGA, not even a BIOS screen.

2. Trying to switch from VGA onboard to DVI onboard
Cannot find option to do so.
Tried to switch via Acer X193w, yet reverts back to D-Sub (VGA).

Requesting help on one or both of the following:

1. Why is my card conflicting with onboard graphics, yet I have all required drivers?
2. What I am doing/not doing with changing signals on mobo?

If you need all the specs on both new and old mobos, and/or the graphics card, let me know.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi
I assume that when you connect the monitor cable, you are connecting it to an output on the graphics card itself?
Make sure that the card has power (seems like you taken care of that already)
In your system bios, go to the Peripherals section and check that the "Initial Display Output: option is set to "PCIe 1 Slot" and not "IGFX"

Well, it turns out that my card just isn't compatible with my motherboard. whenever I connect power to the card, I can't get a screen whatsoever, whether its on VGA or DVI. So, I gave up on that idea.

However, I still cant change from VGA (D-Sub) to DVI. My GA-Z97-HD3 doesn't find my monitor on DVI at all. Is this because I have both VGA and DVI running off of the same monitor?

Both the blue (VGA/D-Sub) and the white (DVI) are plugged into the motherboard. I go to Control Panel -> Display -> Adjust Resolution and there is only 1 display, the VGA. It will detect the DVI, but not recognize it as such. If I try to switch to it, I get 15 seconds of blank screen, with the message on my screen "No Source Detected" before reverting back to the VGA.

Okay, new symptom: Have a new MSI R7 250X 2GB GDDR5. Motherboard works fine when no power is going to the card. As soon as I plug in the 6-pin connector, I can't get a VGA signal from the mobo, not even a BIOS. Comp will beep once as if going through startup, but no video display.

There is a flowchart diagram showing how things communicate with each other. the PCIe x16 goes to my CPU before going through the socket 1150 on the mobo. Could I have a faulty, brand new video card? Or do I have a faulty, brand new mobo?

The current power supply that I have is 600W. It worked just fine with my old mobo and video card, same cables and everything. Had it for a few years. Possibly it could be just time to upgrade? maybe 700W?
