Hello,

ignore the text below, let me put it another way:
i want 2-way sli is it better to get the cheaper ( like UD3H ) board or the bigger and better ( like UD5H ) board, or is the latter just money down the drain?

lot's of comparisons for motherboards en best values etc.

But i was wondering what the very best motherboard is without having to pay for stuff i don't need.

This is my build: http://de.pcpartpicker.com/user/stormflakes/saved/9QDhP6

I would like:
- 2 gtx980's in the future
- maybe one pci for HDD if i don't have to sacrifice GPU power
- fast network
- good audio

I really don't need:
- wi-fi
- 3-way sli or more

I'm doubting between asus-z97-a ; gigabyte Z97 UD3H
Or is there something better?

Thank you

Solution
Well... this board would be support 8x+8x sli, only $91.49.Tier Two board ,would be perfect.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Motherboard: MSI Z97S SLI Plus ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($91.49 @ Newegg)
Total: $91.49
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

by the way UD3H and UD5H only support 8x+8x.

if you want 16x+16x sli.....maybe you should go z97 high-end board...(must support 4-way sli)

Tier One-Class A: Extreme Enthusiast Level. 4 Way SLI supported, power packed with superb VRMs and thermals for extreme OCing, all premium features, these boards are the best Z97 you’ll get in the market...

You want that you go for something over the top like this: http://www.asus.com/au/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_VII_HERO/specifications/

Not sure if there is an afforable board like that though without bells and whistles

4-way sli for that board.
I'm guessing the 3 boards we spoke about before are as good as it get's.

I just see all these people buying hero's and sabertooth's or saberpelt or whatever it's called. I'm wondering if they all go 4-way sli or if there is another reason.

As far as i can work out the basics are all identical, or are they?

Extreme boards shall be a right term to define them. You can’t go wrong quality wise, they’re solid boards.

Note: The 4 Way SLI on this chipset is not as effective as in X99 due to 16 PCIe lanes from the CPU (vs 28 in i7 5800 or 40 in 5900 series,ie, X99), even after usage of PLX chips.

EXTREME9
Z97-WS
Z97 Classified
XPOWER AC
Z97X Gaming G1 (WIFI-BK edition as well)
Z97X Gaming GT

would cost you more budget....
