Hy,

I am planning on upgrading my current system with two Zotac GTX 970s, but I am not sure if my 650w Cooler Master PSU can handle the load.

Some say it will be enough and others tend to say that i will need at least a 850w PSU, so I am a little confused. I also so a guy on youtube running 2 GTX 970s on a 620w Corsair PSU and he was fine.

So what do you think? My problem is that i dont really want to upgrade my psu again, because i bought it like 8 months ago.

rest of my system looks like this:

i5 4670k (no OC)
MSI Z97 Krait
8GB 1600mhz Ram
3 HDDs
1 SSD
8 120mm Fans

Solution
ok so here's the math involved. roughly 150 watts per 970 + another 150 watts (generous) for the rest of the system = 450 watts on your 12v rail needed. this is 37.5 amps. your psu has 52 amps on it's 12v rail. so you'll be using about 72% of your rated 12v. this is well within safe usage. 80-85% is generally recommendation and your below it so you have room to spare.

i know what the specs pages say but this is the math and you can't argue with the math nor the math geek :D your fine to use the psu you have and as you can see your not over stressing it at all. be sure you have the pcie connectors though. you'll need 4 x 6 pin to run both cards. the molex adapters are not recommended to be used.

i stand corrected, at the bottom of the link it states the following:

GeForce GTX 670 2x SLI - On your average system the cards require you to have a 700 Watt power supply unit as minimum.

Sorry mate, i wouldn't risk it if i were you

I know you shouldn't cut back on the PSU but is it really really really necessary because i am also planning on getting a new monitor and with the sli 970s it will cost me about 1000€ which is already enough.
