Samsung 840EVO mSATA 1TB SSD. Keep or Sell?

Hello everyone, I need help to decide about my planned upgrade. So I recently got a new Samsung 840EVO mSATA 1TB SSD as a gift. I'm planning to upgrade my motherboard but I'm debating if I should keep the Samsung mSATA and use it as my main SSD for OS, Games, Software that I mainly use. Buy a board with mSATA slot or buy a board with none and use mSATA adapter. Or sell the mSATA and get the 2.5" SSD.

If I should keep it, what is a good board with mSATA? My budget should be around $200-300 for the board.

I would keep it. If you don't want to be limited to motherboards with mSATA then pick up an adapter for a few dollars and use it like a normal SATA drive.

Is there any loss of speed/performance from using adapter compared to using a board with mSATA?

I'm considering some Socket 1150 MSI boards or EVGA boards because some of them have mSATA ports and they are the only boards I can find that has mSATA for 1150 socket.

Buy an adapter, but make sure it has minimum specs of PCIe 2.0 x2.

Most adapters are PCIe 2.0 x1. Those adapters will work but you won't get maximum advertised Read/Write speeds from your EVO.

There will be no loss of performance since mSATA and SATA are exactly the same, mSATA just uses a smaller connector so that it can fit into tight spaces. You can get an adapter that will make it exactly like a 2.5in drive. I would avoid pci-e adapters. The pcie adapters use an additional sata controller. Using the SATA built in to the motherboard/cpu avoids any compatibility issues and keeps things more simple.

That's correct, with an mSATA to SATA adapter, you can plug it directly into a mobo SATA port and it will run exactly like the 2.5" version of the 840 EVO.

You're only spending $12 with the adaptor that Calculagator suggested, so it's probably best to try that 1st.
