Hi I have an Asusx550c laptop and it came preinstalled with windows 8 and everything else that comes with a new laptop this is all on the C drive and on the D drive there is nothing the trouble is all the things that I have put on the pc are also on the C drive and I cannot restore to factory settings because there is no partition is there a way to partition the section of C drive where the preinstalled set-up is so I can wipe the rest? Hope you can help thanks

Sounds like your Factory Partition is missing that would allow you to do that. GO TALK TO ASUS and ask for assistance. As noted they will probably charge you for a FACTORY DVD to do it manually that way. Normally with...
If there was(or is) a partition with the pr-install stuff, it wouldn't have anything to do with the C drive, and if it isn't there. you won't be able to create it after the C drive is there. You may want to get with Asus and get a dvd with the install stuff on it - it may cost a few bucks(usually about $20), but may be your best option at this point.

UHmmm WHA??? Okay so you modified the partitions to merge into one C drive? Because IF the Factory 'preinstall' windows was set with both C and D, and now complains there NEEDS to be a D, where did your D go? As you want to put it back to factory your best bet would be to simply go into your Disk Manager and edit the drive, BUT you can't do that if your C is full of data (you can't split used space).

So then the ONLY solution you have is to make your FACTORY back up DVDs (no restore feature on the Asus), use DBAN to wipe the ENTIRE thing clean (including the restore partition) then run the Factory DVD to completly put it like they first did to the bare drive. Else call ASUS for support on how to do that.

Thank you for your answers there is a C & D drive but from when I bought it there was nothing on the D drive all the stuff you get on a new laptop setup was on the C drive and of course since I been using it all my other files are now on it I did not get a DVD to restore anything it was all preinstalled I have tried using the reset to factory but all I get is it cannot do that as there is no partition and I have done a system refresh but that just leaves it as it was and I still cannot set it to factory settings

Sounds like your Factory Partition is missing that would allow you to do that. GO TALK TO ASUS and ask for assistance. As noted they will probably charge you for a FACTORY DVD to do it manually that way. Normally with Windows 8 and using UEFI, you select from the BIOS screen to boot from the Factory partition to do a factory restore, but again ASUS SUPPORT LINE (CALL THEM) would be best to walk you through OR provide you the solution (pay for a restore DVD)
