Hi All,
I recently just bought all the components to build my first computer. I feel as though I just got a handle of everything that makes up a computer in terms of its components and now I am reading about all the settings you can change in the BIOS and it is a little overwhelming.
My question is once I start my computer up for the first time is there anything in the BIOS you recommend changing, or can I just start installing my OS with the default settings enabled?
Currently I am not planning on overclocking anything.
The components I am using are:
CPU
AMD FX-6300
Motherboard
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3
Memory
G.Skill 8GB
Storage
Western Digital 1TB 7200RPM
Video Card
XFX Radeon R9 280X
Case
Cougar Spike
Power Supply
OCZ 550W
Optical Drive
Samsung SH-224DB/RSBS

Solution
Set-up your HDD as SATA/AHCI in the BIOS before installing Windows -- you may want to set your optical first in the boot sequence, and then set the 1TB HDD first after the Windows installation.

I would recommend using the MS AHCI drivers IF you do not want to utilize the advanced SATA/eSATA port multiplier function. If you want to use the port multiplier function, you should install the AMD AHCI drivers onto a USB thumb-drive and install them when prompted PRIOR to your Windows installation.
