I have 2 GTX 660's in SLI. I am aware that VRAM doesn't stack with multiple cards. My processor is an i5 3570k. When I play battlefield 4 I get around 60-70fps~. But every about 10 seconds the game freezes for about a half second. This happens on every visual setting (even low). Would this be because I only have 2gb of VRAM? If so, would overclocking the memory speed on my cards help? Also, would overclocking my CPU improve gaming much? Let's say I bought a water cooler and bumped my CPU up to 4.5ghz from 3.4ghz.

Solution
That hitching usually occurs when you are running low on VRAM. With 660's you are limited to 2gb, overclocking memory does nothing because your problem is you simply need more memory. Overclocking the CPU can give some small fps increases, but for this problem it would not help, the issue is low memory.

If you don't want to buy a new 3gb or 4gb card, to save memory you can turn off anti-aliasing and only use post-process AA (like FXAA), lower texture quality, or lower the games rendering resolution. Those are your only options.
