Do you think the price of a GTX 970 will drop after xmas?

Solution
sure it will... eventually. I mean I would expect some major price drops a year or two after Christmas.

In the short term no. Right now you have some Christmas sales still in effect, after Christmas the price will likely bump up a little after those offerings expire.

Eventually I think we will see a 9xx refresh with the delayed die shrink, but we are talking about summer at the earliest. No new products any time soon. If you are going to buy then now is a good time.

*sigh*

NO
It's Nvidias newest lineup of cards, why would they drop the price? Not to mention it is VERY reasonably priced for the performance.

The 970 is Nvidias money maker right now, and if you're hoping the price is going to drop, don't. Buckle down buttercup, if you want quality components you're gonna have to pay for em!
Why would you include AMD in your tags?

the only way it will go down is if amd drops the prices on comparable cards. they undercut amd with the pricing on it which is why it's such a good buy. if amd drops the price of a better performing card to below what the 970 costs, then it will either have to drop with it or never be bought again.

it's not so much that the 970 is the greatest card ever, though it is a great card, it's more that it's priced so low compared to what it does.

All prices are inflated now due to christmas. They will stabilize again afterwards.

I just had to pay 269.99 for the i5 4690k here in Canada. It's usually 229.99. I also bought the MSI z97 GD-65 for 199.99. It's usually 179.99. I also bought the Crucial MX100 256 gb for 129.99. It's usually 109.99.

See the trend? lol. Price gouging at it's finest. Or as the companies would say, supply and demand drove the prices up.

The worst I have seen so far is GTX770's priced at 399.99 and the i5 4690k priced over $300.

ALL CANADA PRICES.

Quite obvious the OP meant in the short term, not long term. Nice try though.

AMDs response to the Maxwell lineup might bring price drops, probably not in the 970 but the 980. That is closer than the next Maxwell refresh (here's to 16nm finFET)

Ok thanks for the opinions. I thought that companies would boost the prices up before Christmas as most people will be buying their cards then. Then I thought that during the after xmas sales we would see a small decrease in price. I guess not.
